Invisalign® Guide

Parmer Lane Family Dentistry Guide to Invisalign

Invisalign is one of the most popular treatments in cosmetic dentistry today, but what exactly is it, and how does it work? Our team at Parmer Lane Family Dentistry has put together a comprehensive guide to answer some of the most frequently asked questions, and you can reach out to our team today if you’d like to learn more.

What are Invisalign clear aligners?

Invisalign clear aligners are an innovative treatment in orthodontics that provides the efficacy of traditional metal braces without the notable appearance and typical discomfort. To guide your teeth into the right positions, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to apply steady pressure.

These aligners are custom made for your teeth based on high-tech scans and imaging. You receive a full series of aligners and switch them out every one to two weeks, depending on your case. You’ll have several checkups over the course of treatment so our dentists can verify that everything is going smoothly.

It’s essential that you keep your Invisalign clear aligners in place for at least 22 hours each day, but they are easily removable for eating and brushing. The nearly invisible appearance and positive customer experience have made Invisalign one of the most popular options for orthodontic treatment.

Who is Invisalign right for?

Invisalign is often the first choice for patients in need of orthodontic treatment. It can be used to treat nearly any type of malocclusion or misalignment that traditional braces can, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps
  • Open bite
  • Crowding

Because every patient is different, your dentist will determine whether you’re a candidate for Invisalign after an evaluation to assess your individual needs.

Parmer Lane Provides Invisalign for Adults

Here at Parmer Lane, we specifically provide Invisalign services for adults.

Adults choose Invisalign for many reasons, including the aligners’ inconspicuous appearance. Invisalign is highly effective in adults, but treatment options are sometimes limited. Because the jaws and teeth have stopped developing in adults, they can’t be shifted as easily or in as many ways as those of adolescents.

However, Invisalign is a suitable option for a wide range of adult orthodontic issues. These include class I malocclusions and many class II malocclusions. Parmer Lane Family Dentistry can determine whether Invisalign is an effective treatment option in your case.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Every patient’s case is unique, so treatment time will vary from person to person. However, Invisalign can generally provide a shorter treatment time than traditional braces. Treatment often varies between six and 18 months, depending on the type of correction your teeth need.

After your treatment, you’ll need to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back into the wrong positions. While you’ll have to wear your retainer around the clock immediately following your treatment, you can wear it less as time goes on.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Discreet Treatment

Invisalign provides many benefits over traditional metal braces in terms of look, feel, and patient experience. Your clear aligners are practically invisible, letting you achieve straighter teeth without drawing attention to conspicuous braces. This helps support self-confidence in both teens and adults.

No Dietary Restrictions

There aren’t any special dietary restrictions with Invisalign. While metal braces require you to avoid sticky and hard foods, removable clear aligners allow you to eat whatever you’d like.

Fewer Visits

Without the need to tighten wires, your treatment requires fewer maintenance visits. We still perform checkups to verify progress, but these visits are fewer and much shorter compared to traditional braces.

Easier Home Care

Keeping your teeth clean is easier with Invisalign because you can remove them and brush and floss your teeth as usual. There’s no need for special flossing tools to work around braces. You can stick with the same routine for oral health that you’ve always followed.
