What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of clear aligner trays fitted over the teeth. Each tray in the series gradually guides the teeth into the desired position. Unlike traditional braces, the trays are removable, and are all but invisible to the naked eye.
How Invisalign Works
The process begins with a consultation, where Dr. Garcia examines your teeth to determine if Invisalign is a good fit for you. If so, your teeth will be digitally mapped out to create a 3D model, which is used to design your Invisalign treatment. The trays are custom-fitted to your teeth, making them a comfortable fit.
You will receive several sets of aligner trays. Each set is worn for about two weeks, at which point you move on to the next set. By the end of the regimen, your teeth will be completely straightened into a healthy bite.
What Dental Issues Does Invisalign Correct?
Invisalign can handle a variety of mild to moderate alignment issues. Teeth that are slightly crooked may easily be realigned with these braces. Spacing issues such as overcrowding or gaps are also symptoms that make a patient an excellent candidate for correction. It may also be used to correct a mild overbite or underbite.
If the misalignment is more severe, traditional braces may be the better option. Dr. Garcia will consult with you to determine which type of braces are needed, and can refer you to a skilled orthodontist if the case is more extensive.
Wearing and Caring for Your Invisalign Clear Braces
When using Invisalign, some care is needed to produce the best results. Your aligners should be worn a minimum of 22 hours a day for best results. Otherwise, teeth may shift back, losing any progress you’ve made.
You will need to remove the braces to eat or drink, and brush your teeth afterward to avoid trapping bacteria or discoloring the braces. Frequent brushing will doubly serve to ensure you have healthier teeth and better hygiene habits. Always rinse your aligners when you remove them.
